Volunteer Job Descriptions

 

Lundale Farm Board Committees

 

Finance and Investment Committee

  • Time Commitment: approximately 10 hours annually
  • This committee is responsible for advising Lundale Farm Inc. on its financial obligations annually and proposing recommendations to the LFI board for executive action, including review of the annual budget. The finance committee supports the LFI treasurer.

 

Governance Committee

  • Time Commitment: approximately 10 hours annually
  • This committee is responsible for interviewing potential LFI board candidates and making recommendations to the LFI board for board appointments. This committee also leads the annual review of the Executive Director.

 

Property Committee

  • Time Commitment: approximately 20 hours annually
  • This committee is responsible for all actions and maintenance related to LFI property and buildings. The committee reviews new farmer applications, interviews potential candidates, and makes recommendations to the LFI board for action. The committee annually inspects LFI property and buildings and makes recommendations for improvements and maintenance as the budget permits. The committee also meets with farmers as needed to review their farm plans, farming practices, and/or farm appearance.

 

Forestry Committee

  • Time Commitment: approximately 20 hours annually, more as needed to complete projects
  • This committee is developing and executing a plan that would take a thoughtful look at LFI’s 200 acres of woodlands at present and its potential. The committee is active in removing ailanthus trees at LFI, and is taking a proactive role in controlling the Spotted Lanternfly at the farm.

 

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

Advisory Board Member

  • Time Commitment: Varied, but typically 1-2 hours per month
  • Tools Required: None
  • Reports to: Committee Chairperson
  • This volunteer will assist with the work of their selected committee, offering professional advice or volunteer labor as needed to complete the work of the committee.

 

Event Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Varied
  • Tools Required: None
  • Reports to: Event Chairperson and/or Executive Director
  • This volunteer will assist with events at Lundale Farm. Tasks may include: set up, registration, parking, moving of tables/chairs/displays, or clean up. Past events have included a movie viewing with panel discussion, dinner and square dance, and 5K with celebration.

 

Trail Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Varied
  • Tools Required: Weed whacker, brush clippers, shovels, wheel barrows, rakes, chain saw and/or other saws, pick axe, hoes, pruning shears
  • Reports to: Property Committee Chairperson and/or Executive Director
  • This volunteer or volunteers will assist in the clearing and routine maintenance of the French Creek Trail that runs from Warwick Park on Coventryville Road along the French Creek over to the Beaver Run at Route 100. The trail is approximately 2 miles in length and marked with gray blazes. The trail currently has no maintenance plan. Lundale Farm can assist with volunteer recruitment for work days, and has signs that can be placed to mark key places on the trail. Lundale Farm ideally seeks one person to chair the French Creek Trail Maintenance Committee and will work with the public to recruit and train volunteers to assistance with ongoing maintenance.

 

Forestry Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Varied
  • Tools Required: Weed whacker, brush clippers, gloves, pruning sheers, and a “good back”
  • Reports to: Forestry Committee Chairperson and/or Executive Director
  • Volunteers will assist in clearing invasive plant species from the 200 acres of forest, part of the Hopewell Big Woods, that runs through Lundale Farm. Volunteers can commit to one day, or some day on several days, to remove specific invasive plants from specific areas of the forest. We ask that there is always at least two people working together in a stand for invasive plant removal. The volunteers will be trained on which invasive plant they are asked to remove during each volunteer opportunity. Forestry volunteers may also be asked to walk the Lundale Farm riparian buffers where trees have been planted to ensure that staked trees remain upright, and restake trees when and where necessary to allow for mowing around the trees.

 

Administrative Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Varied – not more than 6 hours per year
  • Tools Required: None
  • Reports to: Development Committee Chairperson and/or Executive Director
  • This volunteer or volunteers will assist with administrative duties to maintain the organization. These activities may include: assist with mailings, assist with organizing the Lundale Farm meeting room, assist with registration for events, or computer data entry. Jobs will be matched based upon the volunteer’s experiences and knowledge of computer data systems.

 

Graphic and Web Design Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Varied – not more than 10 hours per year
  • Tools Required: Graphic Design Software and Expertise in WordPress and/or HTML, Computer and Internet Access
  • Reports to: Communication Committee Chairperson and/or Executive Director
  • This volunteer may assist with graphic design work for the organization including invitations, maps, or other design for print. This person may be asked to assist with website maintenance that is currently a WordPress site.

 

Social Media Volunteer

  • Time Commitment: Not more than 1 hour per month
  • Tools Required: Camera, Phone, Computer, Internet Access
  • Reports to: Communication Chair and/or Executive Director
  • This volunteer will assist with social media communications for Lundale Farm on Facebook and Instagram platforms (possibly others if deemed necessary in the future). This volunteer will be responsible for conveying the mission and vision of Lundale Farm through social media, including updates of the board of directors, farmers, and upcoming or happening events.
